Bringing the Drama with Dramatic Sleeves

Bringing the Drama with Dramatic Sleeves: Featuring a velvet red mini dress with balloon sleeves and gold heels

If there’s one common thread in the trends taking off in the new decade, it’s that bigger is better. Fashion is moving away from the minimalist essence that dominated the runways through the mid-2010s and embracing the drama. Bags are getting bigger, pant legs are getting wider, and sleeves are getting ever more dramatic, too. Fashion is channelling the 80s and early-00s is a big way. To be honest, those two are my least favorite decades in fashion. But the 2020s take on dramatic sleeves has captured my attention. read more

Trend Tracker: The Pouch by Bottega Veneta

Trend Tracker: Bottega Veneta the Pouch took the fashion world by storm this fall and shows no signs of stopping.

If there’s one bag that’s been taking both the blogs and celebrity candids by storm, it’s the Pouch by Bottega Veneta. The bag is almost genius in its simplicity: supple leather gathered into a pouch shape that allows for the materials to speak for themselves. The OG bag comes in calf leather, but Bottega Veneta has also released a $20,000 version in crocodile skin. Despite the laid back nature of both the bag’s name and silhouette, its luxury is undeniable. read more

Lime Green Takeover: Summer’s Latest Color Trend

Lime Green Takeover: Summer's Latest Color Trend featuring a ruffled lime green dress, beaded brown bag and leopard print heeled sandals

Welcome back, Style of a Gemini readers! I’ve been MIA lately because real life has taken over, leaving me very little time for posts. Since my last post in January, I’ve gotten engaged (!!), got a new job, performed in my dance studio’s largest show of the year, and started wedding planning! It’s been a lot of fun but hard work that left me little energy for creating content. But when I saw lime green starting to pop up everywhere as the color of the summer, I knew I had to come out of hibernation to share it with you all! read more

Snake Me Out Tonight

Snake Me Out: Featuring a snake print knit dress, black pumps, and a prada saffiano shoulder bag

Hello, 2019! We’re about halfway through January, and I’m proud of the fact I haven’t messed up what year it is once yet. If you read my last post on 2018’s fashion trends, you know animal print was my top trend of 2018. Luckily for me, it’s still going strong in 2019, which means I had time to pull out this adorable snake print dress I got a few months ago. read more

Best and Worst Trends of 2018

Best and Worst Trends of 2018: Style of a Gemini Reflects on This Year in Fashion

2018 is drawing to a close, and it’s the perfect time to reflect on our year in fashion. 2018 brought much bigger changes to the fashion landscape than we’ve seen in years, largely due to the death of minimalism in high fashion. Personally, I thought it was a change more than overdue–you can only see a nude-colored head-to-toe look so many times before it feels uninspired. The trends of 2018 definitely took fun and fantasy to another level. read more

‘Tis the Season for Plaid

'Tis the Season for Plaid: Featuring a gray plaid two piece pant set with red cage heels and a red patent leather shoulder bag

Nothing is new under the sun, and it’s especially true about plaid. Although it’s been highlighted as one of this fall/winter’s major trends, it’s a little disingenuous. Plaid trends so often in the colder months that it’s basically a staple print at this point. It’s not usually my favorite print, but when I came across this 80s inspired two-piece, I was totally sold. Somehow my least favorite fashion decade and my not-so-favorite print had come together to create something I actually liked. read more
