Making a Statement: The Latest Sunglasses Trend
Ah, spring. Another change of season that brings along with it new trends for me to buy. This past weekend, I visited the Hirshhorn Museum‘s exhibit Brand New: Art and Commodity in the 1980s. It was a last minute decision based on the cherry blossom peak bloom’s postponement. My trendy spring outfit for that post was not suited for the decidedly not-spring weather, so only one item made it in–these cat eye statement sunglasses.
Ever since Paris Hilton and the mid-2000s, over-sized sunglasses have remained current. The styles have varied from the bug-eyed variety to Kim Kardashian’s infamous block shades, but fashion has collectively been covering its face every summer for the last decade or so. Not anymore! Sunglasses are getting smaller and even more extravagant. This spring is all about statement shades.
You might have seen these shades on Cardi B when she rocked them at the NBA All Star game. Her red ensemble was to die for, but I decided to ease my way into this trend with black on black shades. I love how they add a bit of drama to any look. Pair them with a plain white tee and suddenly, you don’t look so plain.
Speaking of statements, have I told you guys how in love I am with this Fenty Beauty Stunna Lip? This shade is not for the faint of heart–it’s a highly pigmented red you can spot from across the room, but that’s exactly what I love about it. This spring is all about making a statement.
While the Brand New 80s exhibit reminded me why I don’t care for the aesthetic of the decade, it definitely made a statement! Are you going to rock some statement sunglasses this spring? Let me know in the comments below, and be sure to follow me on instagram for more #styleinspo!
Lots of love,
