‘Tis the Season for Plaid
Nothing is new under the sun, and it’s especially true about plaid. Although it’s been highlighted as one of this fall/winter’s major trends, it’s a little disingenuous. Plaid trends so often in the colder months that it’s basically a staple print at this point. It’s not usually my favorite print, but when I came across this 80s inspired two-piece, I was totally sold. Somehow my least favorite fashion decade and my not-so-favorite print had come together to create something I actually liked.
While this season’s plaid has definitely trended towards the colorful, I liked the use of gray in this set. Originally when I saw it, I liked the pants as a piece for to work, since I had been on the hunt for a pair of plaid trousers that fit just right. The matching top was a nice bonus and added a little sex appeal to what could easily be a dowdy trouser on its own.
bang for my buck
The first thing I ask myself before buying a matching set is, “Would I wear each of these items individually?” I feel like that’s the only time you really get your money’s worth. I immediately loved the pants with a black turtleneck and ankle boots, and the top would look great with a high-waisted pencil skirt. Since both pieces are a neutral color, you can pair them with highly saturated colors for a little more excitement. I added the red shoes, bag, and lipstick for that extra pop!
Finally, I found this adorable set thrifting. My Black Friday shopping this year was primarily done at thrift stores! It only took me a few years, but I finally found some thrift stores in DC that have great finds and aren’t consignment stores. I was actually out looking for a dress for my work holiday party and was hoping to find something pre-loved. I didn’t find a dress, but I did walk away with a two skirts, a pair of pants, a mock neck crop top, this cute two-piece, and an excuse to go shopping again. It’s a win-win! Rad in my Plaid
