Trend Tracker: The Pouch by Bottega Veneta
If there’s one bag that’s been taking both the blogs and celebrity candids by storm, it’s the Pouch by Bottega Veneta. The bag is almost genius in its simplicity: supple leather gathered into a pouch shape that allows for the materials to speak for themselves. The OG bag comes in calf leather, but Bottega Veneta has also released a $20,000 version in crocodile skin. Despite the laid back nature of both the bag’s name and silhouette, its luxury is undeniable.
If you need proof that this is the It bag, look no further. The Pouch has been spotted on celebs such as Rihanna, Diane Kruger, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. Vogue did a piece late last summer introducing the item, while popular fashion blog Who What Wear ranked it the number one designer bag of the year.
Personally, I’m in love with this trend–the Pouch is a perfect blend of casual and luxury. The small version can dress up a street style look just as easily as it can compliment a dress and heels. However, I know not everyone who wants to get in on the trend has a spare $2,000 to invest in the bag. If you’d like to try a similar silhouette, both Shein and Zara offer nice Pouch-inspired pieces. Shein’s take on the trend, pictured below, mirrors the smaller pouch, while Zara’s is more similar to the larger clutch pictured above with Rihanna.
Shein’s take on the pouch captures the effortless elegance of the original.
Though the bag seems small, it’s actually very roomy! It comfortably fits my Samsung Galaxy S10, wallet, keys, lipstick, mirror, AND a 16oz water bottle.
If you’re looking for a bigger clutch with a little more defined shape, Zara has a great take on it too. The bag comes in camel, pictured below, and a white and yellow two tone style that I know is going to dominate my instagram feed this spring. I’m not as crazy about Zara’s presence of hardware on the bag. I personally feel the Pouch’s chicness comes from its minimal, effortless folds of leather. But it’s a beautiful take on the trend nonetheless, and I’m resisting the urge to impulse buy it daily.
Zara’s take on the Pouch is another functional standout piece.
Bottega Veneta has come out with a few other takes on this bag for the Spring/Summer 2020 season, but I don’t see any of them getting this kind of shine! What do you think of The Pouch? Would you wear it?
